Question about long hair in the Marines?

I asked earlier about regs for females with longer hair. I was advised to look at a few sites on sock buns for quickly putting up long hair; however, I don't see a single person with hair as long as mine -- several inches past my hips -- is this too long, or have people gotten through everything -- especially PT and showers -- with hair that long.

In basic, i think that you have to cut it so it doesnt touch the colar, but after boot camp you can have it as long as you want as long as its up in a neat bun that rests above you colar and cant interfear with your cover(hat).

It's too long to be practical. When in uniform, your hair cannot touch your collar. It would be too difficult to put up that much hair every day.

I wouldn't advise trying it. Most females have problems as it is with wearing headgear properly (especially kevlars when shooting from the prone) with shoulder length hair in a bun.

Is that really something to stop you from joining the Marines?

i hope your a woman, the regulation was set at no longer than the collar and 0 to 3 inches for men. that's the marines I don't know about the rest.

Be careful, when I was in basic in the Air Force I was assigned personal protection duty for a rainbow with hair that long. They were afraid someone would come up behind her and butcher her hair before she could get to the beauty shop to have it cut, She arrived on Sat and could not get in until Monday Am.

Added : I recommend that if you decide to cut it for you to cut it before you go and donate the hair to the cancer society to make wigs out of.

being that long it probably would not easy to pin up and keep within regulations. About the longest down I can recall was shoulder blade length on a WM that could get regulation. Might be able to do it but would take a lot of work and time. If you want to be a Marine you probably will have to shorten it.

At West Point military Academy, the number one lesson taught in comanding an army is:

Keep your soldiers clean shaving

Keep their hair short

Make sure they have clean socks

So probably you'll have to cut it

That is way to long to handle while enlisted. During basic, you will have minimal time to shower and dress..not enough time to dry that much hair. Even with it pulled up, it would more than likely affect your ability to wear certain pieces of equipment properly (gas masks are something all soldiers have to wear at some point) and during a deployment you would have even less time to care for it. I would strongly suggest cutting it to at least your shoulders before you hit basic. Go to a stylist you trust, bring along some magazines and choose a very easy to handle style. You will still be required to pull it back at times and must not be too fadish, so a simply bob is always good.

nope definitly not short enough from what i see i think they make you cut it to about your jaw.
