Man created all these rules, not God. It's just a way for man to control things. A man with long hair might have been seen as "untidy" for not taking care of himself. While a woman was to cover herself with her hair so men wouldn't see her body and find her attractive, since that could lead to lust, which is a "sin". This is one of those verses that some Christians claim are "cultural". They say that these verses applied in that time and culture but not necessarily our time and culture. However, if God was going to put verses in the Bible that were only applicable under certain conditions, he really should have made sure to clarify which verses are like this. Otherwise, people can say this about any verse they don't like.

This kind of Bible verse shows an obvious weakness in the Bible and Christianity, (or at least the variety of Christianity that claims Biblical infallibility).

If you study this out you will find that this scripture is not referring to the length of hair being shameful in and of itself. It is speaking of men who grow their hair long to be effeminate, which the bible condemns adamantly.

I'd like to know where you got the ridiculous idea that long hair on a man was "shameful". It's pretty obvious why it isn't practicable for men in the armed forces to have long locks, but nobody but a blinkered idiot these days thinks there is a thing wrong with a man having long hair. It's obviously important for it to be clean and well kept of course, but that's a matter of common hygiene, not length.

I think that passage was meant to teach the men of that era that hygiene is important. Remember, back when the bible was written, there were no showers. Only holes with water in them. There were no hair care products, only soap made completely of animal lard.

Men worked in the field all day, made things, ect, and got very sweaty. Long hair and a long beard not only gets in your way while working, but is harder to clean after getting sweaty and dirty.

Women worked as well in those days, but were expected to stay in the house. A woman's hair was also seen in a very alluring, sexual way.

And so, since I believe alot of that era's culture was used to influence what God "said" in the bible by the men who wrote it, that passage was probably put in there to help regulate hygiene.

Or it could just be that the religious leaders of the time didn't like long hair (like adults didn't like the long hair of the hippies in the 60's) and decided to make a "law" to do something about their minor annoyance with a hair style.

Bottom line, I doubt that's what God actually said and I doubt it would apply today.
