How to take care of long hair?

Okay, well, I'm a dude. With no experience with this "long hair" business. I have really thick hair, I'm not sure whether it would be considered oily or dry (it seems like it changes, lol, but more oily than dry).

Is it important to continue going to a barber or hairstylist? What do I ask them to do, or do I just tell them "I'm growing my hair longer"?

What kind of shampoo and/or conditioner should I use? Do I have to, like, do anything with my hair, like style it when I get out of the shower, or anything?

Anyways, this'll be my first time growing my hair long, any info you think I'll need would be really helpful. Also, how long would it take to go from like 1-1.5 inch, to neck-length? More or less?

How to take care of long hair?

I've had long hair most of my life so hopefully I can offer some advice. You don't have to see a barber/hairstylist as you're growing it out, but you may want to get your hair trimmed every 3 or 4 months to avoid getting split ends/keep it looking healthy. When you go, be sure to explain that you are trying to grow your hair longer and just want a trim.

I use Dove shampoo and it seems to work pretty well for my hair. I would say my hair is mostly normal but it gets oily if I don't wash it for a few days. Really, I don't see why the type of shampoo would matter for longer hair vs shorter hair, but if you don't normally use conditioner, you may want to start because it can help prevent split ends, especially if you choose to color it or blow dry it (both of which can cause damage to your hair's health btw).

It's not really good to brush your hair when it's wet because it breaks more easily then (obviously not good if you're trying to grow it longer). I usually do anyway but I use a pick instead of a regular brush because it doesn't pull as much on the hair when you brush it.

You're definitely going to want to brush your hair regularly (2 or 3 times a day at least) if you don't want the tangles to get bad, especially if your hair is naturally curly.

Human hair (I've read) grows about 6 inches a year on average, faster or slower depending on how fast or slow your metabolism is. It grows faster in the summer than in winter, again because of the metabolism factor. I can't predict how long your hair will take to reach the desired length but hopefully that gives you an idea.

Good luck and FYI, I think long hair on a guy is very attractive. You may find that some people will look down on you for it just because you're a guy, but I say, way to be.

How to take care of long hair?

look it up on google theirs tons of info

dont brush it when its wet as its weakest then

trim it every so often to get those split ends off.

dont put a bunch of heat on it

Deep condiction it once a week.

shampoo ONLY your scalp and massage it.

Then condiction only your ends.

sometimes dont wash your hair...the natural oils are good for it. if you think that looks bad oily take some cornstarch and put some in your hair then brush it out

brush your hair BEFORE you shower so you wont have to de-tangle it wet. ouch. wash it after you swim with cholorine. theirs some sprays that protect with even SPF. i use BIOLAGE energizing daily leave in tonic. probably at a local cvs or walmart.
