How can you make your long hair not look like you are old fashioned?

My friend has super long hair and is always getting the question "are you church of God or amish or something?" or "you look really old-fashioned" and it kind of bothers her to get those questions constantly and my hair is getting that long also. Is there a way to make hair look really stylish long? I love long hair.

make it bouncy or get it permed.

A different cut, waves and curls, colours. Anything that isn't "traditional"

Get it cut or styled in a fashionable style. Here are some samples: http://www.hairfinder.com/hairdos.htm

Use soft long layers, and don't let it go longer than your bra strap across the back. You can use a curling iron to put long soft curls in it, or use a flat iron for staright layered locks. You can pull it off- think of Lindsey Lohan or of Gisele Bundchen.

1) Never do a middle part when you have really long hair. If she feels that she must, then do a zigzag part (they look pretty cool). A hairdresser would be happy to show her how to do that if she doesn't know anyone who knows how. http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip957....

2) Adding some spice to her colour will add some shine and youth - Dying only the underneath layer is fun too. If she's scared of colour and damage (and her hair does not have dye on it already) henna can give some beautiful and natural results and actually protects the hair and adds shine (but it is permanent and takes a lot of work to do). Otherwise try semi-permanent from the drug store. Permanent dyes and bleach tend to strip long hair too much and sometimes look trashy.

3) Chunky layers are really popular, so are is framing around the face, and chunky layered bangs. Here are a few examples

4) Make sure that she gets lots of lift at the roots. This can be achieved by blow drying her hair upside-down (before parting the hair), using round brushes to curl it under by the roots, and flip it out at the ends. Just a tad of firm hairspray at the roots and lifting the roots with her fingers or with a round brush will help the style to hold.

5) Use styling cream/lotion at the ends of her hair and layers for definition, protection and shine, and then smooth the outer layer using a very small amount of the styling cream in the directing the hair falls.

6) Try spiralling her hair with a curling iron after applying styling cream for added glamour

There are a lot of different ways. You can dye it a different color or colors. Adding layers can make a huge difference. Try different hairstyles. Have fun with it and look on the web for different styles.

see nelly's hair....with the curls and highlights

you should do something similar... even if nelly's hair was down to her bum it would still look good b/c of the style and the highlights it just brings life to the hair
