this about breeding a long hair dog to a short hair dog.
if the father was a long hair, and the mother was a short hair, would the puppies come out with long fur like that dad? or short like the mom? would most the pups come out with long fur? or short?
or if the dad was a short hair, and the mom was a long hair, would most of the pups come long hair? or short?
this is just a question, im not really cross breeding dogs, im just curious.
this is driving me crazy! i want to know.
Thanks
Long Hair and Short Hair Dogs?
They have actually done research on this sort of thing pertaining to the poodle lab and poodle golden crosses, etc. If the short-haired dog has straight hair then the mix will have straight hair of medium length. If the short-haired dog has wavy hair then the offspring come out with long fluffy hair.
I do know in chihuahuas you can get both in the same litter long or short haired and it doesn't matter what length hair the parents have.
Long Hair and Short Hair Dogs?
There is no way to really answer this question because the puppies could come either way, some may have long hair and some may have short hair or all may have long hair or all may have short hair...it is hard to predict...
Long Hair and Short Hair Dogs?
It depends on what the dominant gene is.
Long Hair and Short Hair Dogs?
Doesn't matter which way you do it, you would end up with long and short haired dogs.. You can't say ' most ' in either case cause you don't know.. They could all be long haired in one litter, short haired in a 2nd litter, 3 litter could contain both.. It's a matter of odds what you will end up getting..
Long Hair and Short Hair Dogs?
No way to know. Its like 2 human parents, say mom has very curly hair and dad has very straight hair, the baby could come out with either one or neither and have wavy hair. Its a toss up.
Long Hair and Short Hair Dogs?
some with short and some with long-although if the older dog had long hair then most pups would have long hair
Long Hair and Short Hair Dogs?
why?!!!
try and think about something else more constructive!
Long Hair and Short Hair Dogs?
It would depend on the genetics. In my breed, long hair is recessive, so you could get a long coat from two short-haired parents.. I think that in Collies it is dominant, since I believe you can get a smooth from two roughs, but I could be wrong about that.
In most breeds that I'm aware of, long hair is recessive, so you'd either get all short-hairs or half and half, statistically speaking, depending on whether the short-haired parent carried the long-hair gene.
Long Hair and Short Hair Dogs?
It's a crap shot at best. I've personnelly seen mix liters of puppies. I've also seen all long hair then all short. Only GOD knows what hair the puppies hair will look like, so stop driving yourself crazy on something only God has control of.
The best breeders in the world would lose their houses if they bet on it!
Long Hair and Short Hair Dogs?
it really doesn't matter whether the mother or father is long or short haired. it's still about a 50/50 chance of being long or short haired.
