LADIES PLEASE HELP!! Long vs. short hair on a guy?

I'm a guy, and i have kinda longish hair. all kinds off people have complimented my hair and said I look much better with it longer than short. I like it better long. However my girlfriend of 2 years wants me to chop it off and get a "fade" hair cut that 70% of guys have and I hate. I dont like the feeling of short hair but she says if i leave it long, no more kisses or "making whoopie"untill its cut off. I really dont wanna cut it, but i want to do those things obviously.. so should I cut my hair for her or not? here are pictures of me with short and long hair (All taken this year within 5 months of eachother):

Would you risk just cutting it (It doesn't look horrible short either) And try to make her happy or just tell her 'I'm sotty but you can't tell me what to do' That might make her really mad though... There's like a 2 inch difference between the two pictures...and while I generally hate long hair on men, I have to admit you carry it well...Number 1 don't let her control you, you look so young and the last thing you need is some girl to tell you what to do and how to look...Number 2 if you like it then she either needs to deal with it or move on, it's not like it's something important, it's hair for christ sake!..Number 3 If you really are considering her request, then ask her for a compromise...tell her you'll cut off an inch that's somewhere in the middle of short and long...If she can't deal with that you might want to seriously considering getting a new girlfriend.

I'm an African American 21 year old. I've had long hair my whole life and that's a huge part of me--my hair. I want to cut my hair because I want my hair maintainence to be a little easier. Some people may be upset because they like my hair long and it's rare these days to find black girls with (real) long hair. I don't want to regret it once I'm done, but I'm pretty sure that I won't because this is something that I've always wanted and I know I'm old enough now to do it. I'm getting it done today so what do you say? Cut or no cut?

If you want to cut it i say go ahead! I was faced with a similar situation...I grew up with really long hair and my family (esp. my mom) always admired it and told me never to cut it. But when it all boils down to it, you have to live with all of that darn hair!! So you should do what you want with it. People with shorter hair usually don't understand all of the mess you have to go through with longer hair. When i turned 18 i decided to cut all of mine off...I hated it. but i thought that's what i wanted at the time. I still keep it considerably shorter (shoulder length) and im very comfortable with it now. I would suggest starting out slow and keep cutting a little bit more off until it gets to a comfortable length. Also, don't worry so much about what other people will think. I'm not African American but....when I had very long hair and decided to get it cut I went just a little shorter than what I had.....worked with it for awhile and then decided to go a bit shorter....and so on. I think if you do it as a gradual process...first others will get used to it and so will you and you will discover what length you feel comfortable at. I have decided over time I enjoy my long hair better so I've let it grow back out but I wanted to let you know what I did ....maybe it would work for you.

Every time I cut my hair short, I regret it %26amp; grow it out all over again. Just make sure that is really what you want before you do it.

Maybe try a wig first, to see how it would look on you first.

Here's what I think:

I had waist length hair a few years ago, and I donated 14 inches to locks of love. I still had long hair -- past my shoulders. If you have hair that long, I think you should donate it -- you only need 10 inches, and then it will be shorter, but still kinda' long. If you don't want to cut that much off, just trim a few inches off. Your hair will look healthier, and it will be more manageable.

I have long hair but by the end i have trouble with split ends and dandruff.

Taking good protein intake having trims regularly i do use oil before each wash

i use Garnier Antidandruff shampoo with conditioner for long hair this sure helps for dandruff but they do break a lot on combing after the wash. How can i keep the volume of my hair good how often should one change the shampoo i have been using............Any other help on Long hair care?

after years of the same problem, i finally learned you have to trim every six weeks or so and i deep condition once a week...let it air dry as often as possible and don't use a lot of hot irons on it..i use steam rollers for curls, and condition with a good conditioner each time i wash it..also, i only wash it twice a week, instead of daily like i did for years,,it was drying the ends so bad, that's why they broke off...it takes lots of different thing, but it all works in the end...

i have the same problem my hair is long and i found that using Selsun blue helps but it stinks don't use conditioner if your using and anit dandruff case it washes it away. or just use pantine to keep the volume in your hair. thats what i do but i'm in need of a trim. i only change shampoo if i have to. maybe you could ask your local hair dresser. that might help.

i have long hair and honestly it is in perfect condition i get it trimmed every 4 months or so ... my secret is to use almond and coconut oil once a week and keep it in overnight ... massage it in like shampoo and wash it out in the morning... it works like a charm u will have celebrity hair in seconds... ur hair gets damaged because the oils u use have lots of chemicals in them where as almond and coconut oil are natural and rich in vitimins and minerals ... trust me and try it out

Don't use the dryer to dry your hair and if you do use a leave in conditioner on your hair, using hair products can make your hair frail as well, as causing a buildup.

If you are going to use straightners or curlers use a leave in conditioner once again and make sure you have trims at least once every 6 weeks, deep condition 1 time a week.

Getting layers in your hair is a good idea as it is easier to keep it under control and less split ends.

PROBLEM-hair underneath(back of head)is completely fried, ripped, frizzy everywhere, so short that hair is only an inch or three underneath. overall hair condition is dry dead extreemly frizzy with lots of breakage. how do i get my amazing long hair back?

i need black hair for halloween and would like to dye it a semi, but my hairs condition is really bad, and im affraid if i ask a salon they will talk me into it just for the $

First of all .......DO NOT COLOR YOUR HAIR RIGHT AWAY! You need to get it back in good condition or its just going to damage it even more. I would suggest a good trim job, some good shampoo and condioner that will moiturize your hair. Use a shampoo/conditioner with a ph level of 7.5 or a little lower ......n e thing higher than that is high in acid levels...you may want to check with your stylist to c which ones are good they do have some that r not name/salon brands.........also do not use the 2-in-1 products......the cleaning detergents in the shampoo counter acts the agents in the conditioner. You may also want to try a cholestrol treatment to help with moisture in your hair.......do not use v 05 hot oil ......its an oil treatment only and does nothing to help retain moisture. A good leave in conditioner would help also. But if you decide to color n e way then you need to use a filler......either protien or a condioning filler ......u can find it at n e salon or beauty supply store. But honestly I wouldnt do n e thing till you got your hair back in a healthy state. If its just for Halloween buy a wig......its cheaper and safer for your hair at this point. I know this is kinda long but you DO want your hair back right?

Have you tried Pantene for dry/damaged? I fried my hair (well actually a salon did) and I tried all the expensive brands and Pantene worked within 2 or 3 shampoo/conditions. My hair looks and feels healthy again. I was able to dye it myself with a non expensive brand and It's super shiny to. The other thing that helps are the silk drops by Biosilk if you just put a couple drops in your hand and smooth it over your hair. It's amazing to. Good Luck.

I'm more curious than anything if long hair is something that could possibly make you look less desirable or taken less seriously by a potential employer. My hair is a little bit past my back and grows extremely fast so it's easy for it to get and stay long and I don't do much except for wash/condition/brush it to keep it in good condition.

For jobs/interviews I'll usually do a low ponytail or a bun or some type of up do so my hair doesn't get messed up in the possible wind, etc. Do Possible employers look at someone with longer/long hair as less serious or knowledgeable in their field (IE younger and less experienced) and go for someone with shorter hair and a more career look? Or does it matter in the end as long as you put your hair up, present yourself well-groomed if both candidates are otherwise equal?

I am a professional and work in a professional enviroment. I had long hair for years and decided to cut my hair short last fall. It was the worst mistake of my life and I am not happy at all.

It is usually accepted that our image has alot to do with how potential or current employers see us. Humans have eyes and can not help but to view us through them. Our hair and how we look does effect our impression on others.

I think that while short to medium length hair is considered to be more professional, you can still keep your long hair if it is cut to really enhance your face shape and you keep it in great condition. Having nice , well kept, neat hair gives the impression that you really care about your own appearance. Thus, this also gives the impression that if you are willing to spend the time to look good, you may be willing to spend the time and actually care about the quality of work you produce.

I don't think so at all. Long hair can make you look very mature if worn correctly. I would stick with a bun or some type of clip to keep it out of your face (NOT cute little butterfly clips! lol) Several of the women I work with have mid-length to long hair, and they look very professional. I think it has more to do with what you are wearing and if you're well-groomed and act professional.

if you put in a style that says your ready to work and you really wnat the job then your hair and you will be fine. put it up in a sophisticated look but not a school marm look. try putting it in a ponytail wrap. like when you put your hair in a ponytial leave a peice of your hair out at the bottom of your ponytail and then with the extra peice wrap it around your ponytail where the hair tie is and then when there isnt any more hair to wrap tuck it into your holder and best as possible or cliap it under your ponytail so its not visible.or try half up half down. or try curls.or put it ont an uspide down ponytail. like out your hair into a ponytail then loosen it a little bit.then it should hang just a bit.then make a hole with your fingers in the loose area and pull your ponytail up then down thru the hole.uh for other hair ideas just look up hair styles on google images.

Comfort or confidence...if you are so comfortable with how you look you must not be confident otherwise you would not be asking this question. Maybe you should cut your hair and shave and see how that works for you with the ladies. It will always grow back if you don't like it. Go to a high-end salon - not the $7.00 haircut place! You might be surprised and feel more comfortable that way. Don't be afraid to step out of that comfort zone...it usually works out to be the best decision after you make the jump!

Wrong, at least in my opinion;) I find long hair and 2-3 days grown beard VERY attractive! A man, to me, as to be as natural as possible: hate suits and ties, love blue jeans and t-shirts; no special effects;)

Women are complex. We all have different likes and dislikes. I, personally, think that long hair on a guy is not hot. I also think that facial hair is only gross if it is not groomed. I would have to add, however, that I do not like to kiss someone who has a lot of hair by the lips, although having a 5 O'cllock shadow around that area actually HURTS! We girls are sensitive there as we are soft. Just a few thoughts from a lady.

My hair is below my shoulders, and I've worn a beard for most of twenty years, and a mustache for for over 30 years.

I wear them for my own reasons and my own satisfaction. If someone does not like them, I'll be glad to lift my kilt so they can kiss my butt.

FWIW, I've gotten plenty of compliments from women on my hair, and facial hair, especially when I have it trimmed into a Van Dyke.

It is kind of hard to tell with that picture, but from what I can see- I would say short hair..maybe up to your chin, so a little longer than it is now. You seem to have a round face, and short hair is best for that.

As of now, my hair is medium length shags (5-6 inches long). Its brown semi-blonde... the lead singer in underoath, spencer chamberlain, has awesome long hair; my hair is straight like his, though his is darker and obviously, longer. I don't think my parents would agree with that long of hair, but its my choice. Should I go through the trouble of trying to grow it like that, what do you girls (and i guess guys) think?

im 16, i live in canada, im caucasion, im mainly skater with a little emo (kindof fitting shirts all black from west49 ahha, and not tight but not loose jeans) blue eyes, play guitar, slender with signs of working out:D, pretty tall.

My main concern is that I will grow it and it will look gross. Sometimes it doesnt look sweet on a guy, it just looks unappealing, especially when its back in a pony tail or whatever its caled. I like long hair that looks kindof wet, but not greasy, and going forward into the face.

I've had long hair since I was maybe 13 (Im almost 23 now) Its long down to my butt really, covers my whole back when I let it down.. its dark brown with natural curls and I straighten it when I get bored.. See now Im going thru this phase of "Im SICK of it - I need to CUT it" Like maybe shoulder length or sumthin.. Im just afraid I'll miss it (10 years is a LONG companionship)... Long hair isnt even in fashion, right? It does give that Gothic look that Im into.. Listen to me closely please. Men love long hair on a woman. I realize it is a pain to take care of but you won't have it forever! My ex kept hers until she was 40 and then cut it and donated it. While she doesn't regret the donation, she does miss her hair terribly to the point of crying at times. Think long and hard about it my friend. cut it so it is about 3 or 4 inches below your shoulders, and get it layered. even though it may feel like a ton of your hair gone, to other people it is still considered long hair. so you get to have shorter, lower-maintenance hair, but it is still considered long. good luck! =]

When i transferred to a prodomonently white school in 3rd grade, i was occasionally made fun of when my mom would put my hair in certain hair styles.( I'm African american by the way) She would do cute ponytails with barrettes in my hair. But sometimes she would try something new. Being a kid, you had to let your mom do your hair because you were not old enough to decide for yourself. I was made fun of at some of my hair styles..i must admit i didnt like a few myself. But growing up i started being able to decide on how i wanted my hair to be done. Doin this caused my hair major damage that didnt become noticable until around my 7th grade year. My hair was getting shorter and shorter breaking off. Any advice or hair tips for getting my hair longer and healthier but still look cute? Can this be done before school starts? I'm 15 and becoming a sophmore.

Deep condition twice a week

While shampooing massage your scalp with your fingertips slowly, it's not necessary to shampoo the ends, then rinse with warm water.

When using a conditioner leave on for about 1-3 minutes so you can get great results then comb hair with wide tooth comb then rinse with very cold water to have shiny hair

If you use gel/hairspray/moose stop using them. They damage and dry up your hair.

If you use heat appliaces (blowdryers,curling irons, hair straightener) use a heat protecter spray so it'll protect your hair from heat.

If your in the sun alot buy a cap or a hoodie to protect your hair from the sun, heat damages and drys out your hair.

Buy a leave-in-conditioner/leave-in conditioner/creme to moisturize your hair all day long and don't rinse.

After your out of the shower set your blowdryer on cool setting and blowdryer your hair for 2 minutes, this will help seal the hair cuticles for a smooth shiny surface.

If you dye your hair do it atleast once a year, hair dye has terrible chemicals that kill your hair.

If you notice any split ends, I would start off by cutting as much of them off as you can. Split ends can often split further up the hair shaft causing more damage as the hair grows longer. After that start using an olive oil treatment, it works very well as a moisturizer for the hair. Obviously, it'll make it oily but it helps it in the long run. I'd use it at least once a week just to be safe. You'll have to be patient as your hair grows but it will be worth it to cut off the damage so that when it does get long, it will be beautiful!

it sounds like you might have split ends. you can buy special shampoos to help strengthen the hairs. the downside about split ends is that you do need to get the ends trimmed frequently,. depending on how fast your hair grows. it could be as often as every three weeks, or once every other month. be careful if you decide to dye your hair or go swimming, as the chlorine in a pool can damage your hair. good luck fixing the problem, and good luck in 10th grade! I just finished my sophomore year, and it was so much fun! i think you will enjoy it. take every opportunity that comes your way, because you will regret it if you dont.

and shampoo . it will take at least two weeks for your hair to become healthier. your hair is brittle , that is why it is breaking off. use a comb never a brush.brushing breaks the hair . your hair can grow quicker taking a hair supplement, vitamin ....

Dont go out and buy anything expensive.

First: Purchase a mild Shampoo (To Clarify hair, I will explain why)

Second: TRIM your hair ends (May 1 1/2 to 2 inches)

Third: Here's the magic part: Mix olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil, avocado oil and a "little" honey, (honey u will have to heat so it can blend). Either leave on ALL day or all night (if all nite, DONT use honey)

Repeat this 3-4 times a week, your hair will grow like a weed %26amp; remove all frizz I promise,..... and it will be super shiny!!!!

The clairifying shampoo will help take the oil off your hair when u shower

You can find olive oil anywere, but the other oils you will have to buy at a local organics store, wholes foods or BJ's health corner.

i think it's a good idea to compromise both short and long hair to fit the shape of your face. you should probably get some layers and be able to juggle long hair all at once. the side swept bangs are "in" right now and fits just about any style.

I've been in short hair all these while, as far as i can rmb the last time i had long was 10 yrs old back in primary school. Now i'm 20, i decided to go back to the old school long hair(boy that's how long it took me to change my hairstyle).

My hair is not as short as pixie short, but the rather longer like erm..Ellen Degeneres type of short, with fringe up to my jaw. But my most recent hairstyle was bob.

As you know, bob is longer in the front and shorter at the back, as it grows longer, it is started to go out of shape. So i went to trim it, plus i heard that trimming will make your hair grows faster because of healthier ends sth like that.

But now my fringe is trimmed to be as short as the hair at the back, so i'm back to my usual short hair AGAIN and NOWHERE NEAR LONG HAIR.

How long more will it take for my hair to reach collar bone/pony tail length? Is it true that trimming will make it grow faster? Any other ways to make my hair grow faster?

eat foods with lots of protein, and be gentle when you brush it so the ends wont break off. regular trimming doesn't make your hair grow faster, it keeps it from getting dry and brittle and breaking, so it seems like it's growing faster.

Slightly trim it and keep it the way it is, I heard the hair grows faster during summer.

Just forget it after trimming it, and one day you'll forget when you last had short hair.

Dust lightly with baby powder to absorb oil so you don't have to wash everyday. I have dark brown hair and as long as I brush it through you won't see any white residue. Sometimes baby trims seem to make your hair grow faster. You want to keep it healthy with no split ends ,this is the way to do it. Deep conditioning treatments and a high quality shampoo would be good as well. Shampoos with peppermint and rosemary oil will stimulate the scalp and help with the speed of growth.

Little trims won't get your hair shorter, and it's the only way to avoid split ends. Depending on your age, maybe even your mom or a friend can do it. If your hair is curly (which you sound like it is with your flat iron question), it won't matter if the trim is a little uneven. Some people even say trims make hair appear longer.

If you use Paul Mitchell stuff, like Straight Works balm or Super Skinny Serum, and you dry your hair with a hair dryer and a round brush, it should go straight. Also, if you pull your hair up or back after using the gel, it will go straight.

For shampoo, Dove shampoo and conditioner work really well for me.

I hope this helps. There really is no way to protect your hair from a flat iron. You really shouldn't have to use a flat iron if you use Paul Mitchell stuff.

Best suggestions to keeping it healthy between now and then is using Redken AllSoft Shampoo. It's very good, and it keeps the hair very smooth. If you have the time/money, you may want to go to your local stylist and get a deep conditioner once a month. The deep conditioner has PPT in it which is basically extra protein that will rebuilt the bonds of your hair. This will also help if/when you use a flat iron. Also, when using the flat iron, it can be damaging, but using Matrix Smooth Down will help. It's made to protect your hair against the heat of the flat iron.

At that time, you can trim the ends all to one length. Right now, you're just at a bad time. In a another 6 months - 1 year, you'll be fine.

straighten it often and something weird will help. GET SICK ALOT. ur hair grows 30% faster when ur sick so use ure imagination. i had the same problem. it wont look like a mushroom if u straighten it often cuz ur hair will get used to being straighter and if its long enough it wont be able to hold up that mushroom shape anyways

Can you grow it to somewhere in between? I think you would look cute with shoulder-length hair and layers. You wouldn't have quite as many splint ends, but could still have the benefits if long hair.

i personally liked the long hair better, but if you had damaged hair, slowly let it grow out until you notice it getting damaged more often then keep it at that length. Keep trimming the split ends every month or so, that will let your hair grow faster and keep it from getting drastically damaged. Don't dye it, and always get it cut professionally.

It looks more modern, and its just easier to look after.

Also most people have it long, and i just think that its better to look different rather than everyone else.

Or you could just have it between the 2 lengths, with just more layers.

Just finished university and am going to be looking for jobs in top firms in the cities on London or Manchester, however I am worried that my hair my seem too long for some businesses. I know that long hair is often frowned upon in the workplace - but for men, how long exactly would you say is TOO long?

My hair at the back and sides is down to my ears and the hair at the front is just above eye level. My parents tell me I have long hair, but would this type of 'long' hair be frowned upon by the majority of businessmen?

I prefer most men to have the short spiky or faded look myself, but that doesnt work on anyone. you're 22 not too old to have long hair, but a lot of guys have dirty long hair and that's where the problem is. pushing it back with your hands and stuff and having it in your face can cause breakouts. Just make sure to wash it every other day and be neat and clean no matter what you choose to do. As far as the girl, if she refuses to date you cuz of your hair she's not worth it. Well, it seems like there are alot of issues determining your decision. But one thing I noted is your face breaks out from your hair. So if that's the case maybe you could trim it shorter than it is but not so short as to see your scalp. That way you can still have a little length to it and your face will look nice as well.

( some fustrations too) But in my opinion and my clients we feel that hair and style is mainly about comfort. So if you feel comfortable with long hair and sexy by all means GO FOR IT!! Get your groove back.

I grew my hair down to my boobs once (This took two years).

Towards the end, I just found it really difficult to maintain and the ends often ended up dry while my roots were greasy. Plus, I found it very heavy.

Nowadays I have a growing out crop (I normally find short hair less work and I feel much more confident with shorter hair). I want to grow it long again so I can have colour put on the underneath section.

Go for it - It's great that you want to actually take care of your long hair. Too many long haired guys have nasty looking greasy ponytails or big scraggly messes on their heads. Honestly, I think that man without long hair isn't a real man. Biologically, men were meant to have long hair to appear more frightening to attackers and to animals (but you already know that).

I currently have long hair that is about an inch below where my bra is in the back. I've always loved long hair but it has never been this long. My hair looks like Jennifer Aniston's with the long layers only in front to sides. Downside is it gets dead ends b/c I have wavy hair and I have to straighten it. So any longer will just be unhealthy on my hair anyway.

Well I used to have my SUPER long. Probably even longer than yours. Then one day I decided to take risk. I cut my long hair to shoulder length. At first I was crying my eyes out because I missed my long hair (this was during the summer). Then after like 3 months or so my mom asked me if I wanted layers since before it was even all the way around. I got layers and I LOVED IT! Everyone says my hair looks better the way it is now. Remember less is more sometimes :). And yes the style you want to persue will work. Take a risk remember its only hair it'll grow back. And well I understand why people want long hair in the winter and shorter hair in the summer. But it doesn't really matter to me. I LOVE MY HAIR NOW!
