Long hair question..brush dry or wet?

I have heard two different theories on brushing very long hair (like my own, like past the waist long) One is you brush it in the shower with conditioner because the hair is more supple and less inclined to break when wet. The other advice assures me you should never brush your hair wet. So what is the REAL story? And how do you brush YOUR hair? Thank you all!

Both theories actually work quite fine. That is, if you know how to do it properly.

The purpose of brushing hair in the shower w/conditioner is to distribute it evenly. But actually, you're supposed to COMB not brush. DO NOT BRUSH HAIR WET!!! Hair is more fragile when wet and brushing will only stretch your hair, making it more prone to breakage. Plus, combing conditioner in reduces tangles when you get out of the shower.

So technically, the 2 theories are somehow connected to each other. Remember, use a gentle wide toothed comb when wet, and use a brush to help distribute your hair's natural oils down to the ends to help prevent split ends when dry :)

I have always been told to BRUSH when dry. If you brush when wet you can damage your hair.

The best bet is to use a wide toothed comb (especially if hair is thick) to comb when wet (use conditioner--especially if hair is dry/damaged/treated).

I brush it right after blow drying it. If I try to brush it wet, it just tangles all over again.

I always condition my long hair in the shower to ensure it is moisturized. Then I comb my wet hair with a wide tooth pick or comb. You don't loose as much hair as there is much less pulling.

Dry. It is actually more prone to breaking when wet.

DO NOT BRUSH WET! it damages your hair and pulls chunks of it out when you are unaware of it. i take a shower every night, and sleep without brushing it, then in the morning i brush it.

Your best bet is to comb it with a comb and detangler when wet. Thats what I would do. If that doesnt work bring a comb in the shower and comb it with conditioner in the shower.

I was always told to COMB my wet hair with a WIDE TOOTH COMB. And do it when I am putting conditioner in it.
